The triumph of spirit over body Moshe Alon (journalist)
Nothing is sweeter than success. Everyone who has overcome obstacles and accomplished his goal knows it. Yes, success is even sweeter when you are the first initiate an idea which no onw has thought about before.
This was the idea of unique woman, Mrs. Orly Baor.
19 years ago, Orly Baor watched a TV program where disabled, sitting in wheelchairs, moved their bodies coordinately according to music. This idea struck Orly. As a dancer and an experienced gym teacher, she was withdrawn to challenge of teaching dancing to disabled in wheelchairs. However, the way toward accomplishing that dream was not at all smooth. When she first addressed her plan to Mr. Josef Lutenberg, who used to be the chairman of IDF disabled and was the manager of “Beit Halochem” (a special recreation center for disabled soldiers), he rejected it, saying it was somewhat strange. Others even ridiculed her proposal. Nevertheless, Orly did not give in. her charm, charisma and venture led her to a breakthrough when a disabled, who was a dancer, agreed to join her. Later, the “rumor” spread and others joined, too.
Eventually it become a dancing-group, integrating disabled with experienced women dancers and volunteers whose love for dancing, along with an endless urge to contribute led them to join that unique dancing group. “Hora Galgalim” was founded in 1986 and has performed a lot in Israel and abroad for many years.
Watching disabled move is their chairs, alongside women dancers dancing on feet, might raise a contradiction. Yet, this contradiction is only in one’s mind because this view is extraordinary breathtaking, When the wheelchairs become an integral part of the moving body. This is the feasible view of triumph. Triumph of spirit over body.
Mrs. Orly Baor has also participated in many Israeli representative dance groups. She is also a professional at dance therapy. She was the choreography and manager of “Hora Galalim” (IDF disabled soldiers) and “Galgalei Rishon” the biggest disabled dancing group in Israel.
